Exhibition Fever!

Birth by Daniel Hanequand

March is an exciting month for all of us here at the CPSC. Not only does it herald a new season but, with the deadline of  our 1st National Juried Exhibition at the end of the month, it’s also the highly anticipated beginning of something extraordinarily special for all Canadian coloured pencil artists. The deadline is approaching fast, so if you plan to submit an entry or two, mark the date on your calendar (March 31) and feel free to submit your entries using our convenient online entry form.

As is outlined in the prospectus, we have some matting and framing requirements for submitted work. Our President and Exhibition Director, Gordon Webster,  has been kind enough to write an article describing the  CPSC Framing for Exhibit Requirements in detail. We hope this clears up any questions you may have had regarding these requirements, but if not, please don’t hesitate to email your questions to exhibition@colouredpencilcanada.ca.

Also in the news for March, we are pleased to profile Daniel Hanequand this season as our Featured Artist for the month of March. Daniel is a Parisian born, Toronto based coloured pencil artist who enjoys working in the abstract . . . → Read More: Exhibition Fever!

CPSC’s Featured Artist For June

Breakthrough

The Coloured Pencil Society of Canada is pleased to profile Ottawa area coloured pencil artist Erica Walker as our Featured Artist for the month of June. Erica is one of the founding members of the CPSC and presently holds the position of CPSC Secretary-Treasurer.  She has been drawing all her life and wields her pencils with amazing skill and an incredible sensitivity.  It is truly a pleasure to witness her process as detailed through her interview and we are grateful that she’s taken the time to share her journey with us here.

In other news, the Orleans Festival is on this weekend at the beautiful Shenkman Arts Centre and the Coloured Pencil Society of Canada will be there on Saturday, June 4, from 10 am to 5 pm in the lower lobby.

Our founding members, including President, Gordon Webster, will be on hand to promote awareness of coloured pencil as a fine art medium, as well as to answer any questions about the CPSC specifically or about coloured pencil in general.  There will also be several examples of different styles of coloured pencil work on display and we will be providing hands on instruction and “how to”  demonstrations . . . → Read More: CPSC’s Featured Artist For June

CPSC Welcomes New Vice President

Taming the Beast by Alexandra Bastien

The Coloured Pencil Society of Canada is both honored and proud to announce that talented French Canadian coloured pencil artist, Alexandra Bastien, has not only become a member of CPSC, but has also consented to take on the role and tasks of Vice-President in this, our inaugural year.

Alexandra Bastien’s brilliant new work is currently on display at Centre d’exposition de Repentigny, in Repentigny, Québec. Her exhibit, titled “Fragments de secrets”, sensitively focuses awareness on the vulnerability and abuse of women in our society.  The show runs until March 13.

We are so pleased that Alexandra took the time out of her busy schedule to be interviewed as our Featured Artist for the month of March.  The glimpse she gives us into her artistic process and the journey she is on is both fascinating and inspiring.

She has also very kindly undertaken the monumental task of translating our CPSC website into French, so as to make our site more easily accessible and enjoyable for all Canadian artists. We hope to have the translation available soon.

Please join me in welcoming Alexandra Bastien as Vice President of the Coloured Pencil Society of Canada.
