CPSC Exhibition

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Being the first National exhibit of the Coloured Pencil Society of Canada,  this exhibit will only be open to Canadian artists who are at least 18 years of age or older.

 

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Only 100% coloured pencil will be accepted. Wax-based and oil-based are considered acceptable.
  • Use of any other media as part of the artwork OR as a surface preparation or under-painting will not be accepted,  except as specified below.
  • Use of solvents is acceptable.
  • Use of graphite or tinted graphite pencils is acceptable if used as an under-painting.
  • Artwork must be two-dimensional on a single surface. No collage or montage.
  • Previously exhibited works are acceptable
  • Concept,  design and execution of the artwork shall be solely that of the artist created from their own source material and not copied from any copyrighted material.
  • All artwork must be suitably framed in a simple frame. No wide or ornate frames will be accepted. All frames must be ready to hang by wire,  no sawtooth hangers and no “clip” frames. Any work received improperly framed will be returned and not hung in the exhibit.
  • Matting must be what is commonly referred to as Academic (white or off white, light grey, or tan). CPSC will publish an article on framing with more information.
  • Framing must be with Plexiglass. NO GLASS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

  • Information on entry form regarding size and price may not be changed once submitted.
  • Artwork may not be altered after submission of digital image.
  • Artwork must be available for the full duration of the exhibition in both cities.
  • The CPSC reserves the right to disqualify any submission that fails to meet the specifications.

 

JUROR

  • Quality of work will be the main criterion for acceptance into the exhibit.
  • Entries will be forwarded to the juror without identifying the artist. No preferential treatment will be given to CPSC members.
  • Bernard Poulin will be the sole juror for the exhibit. His decisions will be final.
  • Mr. Poulin has generously agreed to send a written critique of each submission.

 

PERMISSION

  • By submitting an entry,  the Artist grants permission for the CPSC to use the image with credit on its website at http://colouredpencilcanada.ca/, as well as on any and all promotional and publicity materials about the exhibition or as the CPSC sees fit. The CPSC will not be held responsible if artwork is downloaded from the website or otherwise copied from promotional materials.

 

HOW TO SUBMIT

  • Artists must submit digital images of their work in .jpeg format to exhibition@colouredpencilcanada.ca.
  • Submitted images must be high resolution (300 dpi).
  • Images must be 2000 pixels on their longest side.
  • Photos must be taken square to the drawing or they will not be considered.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries one artist may submit and more than one work from one artist may be selected, depending on available space.
  • Fill out the Entry Form and pay your entry fee(s) (see entry forms below)

 

FEES

CPSC Members

  • $25.00 for the first submission and $10.00 for each subsequent submission by the same artist.

 

Non-members

  • $38.00 for the first submission and $15.00 for each subsequent submission by the same artist.
  • Please note: Entry fees are in Canadian dollars (CAD) and are non-refundable.
  • Fees may be submitted electronically via PayPal and are preferable to cheque or money order.

 

SIGNATURE STATUS

  • This will be the first exhibit to qualify toward CPSC Signature status (the right to include the letters CPSC after the artist’s name).
  • CPSC members may earn Signature status by having their art appear in three (3) CPSC Exhibitions within a seven (7) year period.
  • Any lapse in CPSC membership will result in the loss of prior acceptances and forfeiture of Signature status.

 

SHIPPING INFORMATION

  • Deadline for selected entries to be received by CPSC is by the end of the business day, June 18, 2012.
  • All works must be sent pre-paid and will be returned collect by the same carrier wherever possible unless otherwise specified.
  • Detailed shipping information and instructions will be emailed to qualifying artists.

 

LIABILITY

  • While the CPSC will have the necessary insurance it is recommended that each artist insure their work for shipping and during the time it will be out of their control before shipping.

 

GALLERY INFO

  • The exhibition will travel from Ottawa and to the Montreal area in August,  2012.
  • The exhibit in Ottawa will run from July 3,  2012 until July 31,  2012 and will be held in the lower lobby of the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa,  Ontario.
  • The Shenkman Arts Centre is a public gallery space operated by the City of Ottawa and they reserve the right “to implement selective viewing for work deemed by the Shenkman Arts Centre to be sensitive to some persons and subject to viewer discretion”.
  • A Vernissage and Awards Ceremony will be held in Ottawa on July 7th. Details to follow.
  • The exhibit in the Montreal area will run from August 1,  2012 until August 19,  2012 and will be held in the Galerie d’Art 249 in St. Sauveur,  Quebec.
  • A Vernissage will be held in St. Sauveur on August 4th. Details to follow.
  • CPSC will arrange and pay for transporting the works to and from each venue.

 

SALES

  • Artwork may be priced FOR SALE or NOT FOR SALE.
  • The Shenkman Arts Centre will receive a 15% commission on the pre-tax price of any artwork sold during the exhibit in Ottawa.
  • Galerie d’Art 249 will receive a 50% commission on the pre-tax price of any artwork sold during the exhibit in St. Sauveur.

 

NOTIFICATION

  • Email notification of acceptance to qualifying artists will be sent by the CPSC during the week of April 23,  2012.
  • A complete list of all selected artists will be posted on our website at http://colouredpencilcanada.ca/ during the week of May 7,  2012.

 

AWARDS

  • Awards will be presented for 1st,  2nd,  3rd place,  as well as Honourable Mention.
  • There will also be a Viewer’s Choice award.
  • All winners will be notified by email.
  • Prizes to be announced.
