Artist’s Biography/Statement
Hanna
Jinny loves painting portraits, and following several flights of imagination, including bridges on platters and zebras wearing overcoats. She is a recent convert to landscape, inspired by travel, Emily Carr, the Group of Seven and Van Gogh. She has developed a love affair with acrylics and watercolour, while retaining her passion for oil, oil pastel and coloured pencils.
Jinny’s second love is teaching art. She has been doing this for 20 years, for the Ottawa Board of Education, Nepean Visual Arts Centre, Visual Arts Centre, Orleans, The Shenkman Centre, Crichton Community Centre, privately at her studio and in Switzerland.
Slyfield has been juried into many exhibitions, including those at the Frederick Remington Museum, New York, The Portrait Society of Canada in Toronto, the Kingston Prize and many galleries around Ottawa and environs.
Jinny was trained at le centre communitaire de La Celle St. Cloud, France, the Ottawa School of Art, Algonquin College and the High School of Commerce, in the galleries and spaces of Europe, and the landscapes of Canada. She is pleased to be a juried-in member of the Foyer Gallery, and the Portrait Society of Canada, as well as an Associate member of the Society of Canadian Artists .
