Artist’s Biography/Statement
Deep down I have always wanted to be an artist but always put that dream on the back burner. In the 70s I started to play with oil paint and fell in love with the medium. It is so forgiving. I painted maybe a dozen paintings until I had to stop for family responsibilities. Late in the late 90s, I tried acrylics and water colour because there were no fumes and it was easier for cleaning, but I have never really been satisfied with the end result.
In 2003 I met an artist and asked if she could give me drawing lessons. First thing I knew, I was at her door with all my tools. It was not long before I noticed all the books she had and one in particular caught my eye. It was “Prisma Coloured Pencil”. That is when I was introduced to coloured pencils and I have never looked back.
There is a peacefulness that comes with sitting at my drafting table till late at night, painting with my pencils. It is like I am in my own little world. The end results always surprise me. I paint because I love it. I have a hard time letting go of some of my pieces, so I make prints.
My subjects change from one thing to the other, it’s what ever catches my eye or my heart at the time.
Hope you enjoy seeing my work as much as I enjoy painting it.
